Unsere Arbeitsgruppe beschäftigt sich mit der Morphologie und Evolution von Spinnentieren (Arachnida) unter Verwendung von elektronenmikroskopischen Methoden. Diese Untersuchungen fokussieren dabei v.a. auf folgende Organsysteme: Kutikulastrukturen, Sinnesorgane, Organe der Exkretion und Osmo-/Ionenregulation, Darmtrakt, Oogenese und Spermatogenese. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeiten wird versucht, neben dem systematischen Aspekt (Aufklärung großsystematischer Zusammenhänge) den funktionell en und evolutionsbiologischen stärker zu berücksichtigen und den Anpassungswert der Strukturen zu erkennen.

Our group focuses mainly on the morphology and evolution of Arachnids at ultrastructural level. Cuticle structures, different organs such as alimentary tract, genital systems (including spermatogenesis and oogenesis) excretory and sensory systems represent the focal points of our studies. Within this work we try to combine both the systematic aspect that involves the investigation of relationships of higher taxa and the functional and evolutionary aspect of structures.
